The NPA wishes to express its appreciation to the Vanderbilt Quality Outcomes Database (QOD) Coordinating Center for its invaluable contributions to advancing health care quality and its collaboration in the development, implementation and refinement of the Quality Outcomes Database registry. The creation of neurosurgery’s national registry platform would not have been possible without the efforts of the QOD Coordinating Center team.
In the course of its collaboration with the Vanderbilt QOD Coordinating Center, the NPA saw the expansion of the QOD registry program in over 100 centers across the country, over 150,000 patients enrolled across its registries and the success of the QOD Spine Registry in becoming the largest spine surgical registry in North America.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Vanderbilt Institute for Medicine & Public Health served as the QOD Coordinating Center for the QOD Spine, Neurovascular and Cranial Tumor Pilot registries from January 2012 to August 2020. The NPA thanks the QOD Coordinating Center team:
Kristin R. Archer, PhD, DPT
Dr. Archer joined the Quality Outcomes Database in 2015 as the Director of the QOD Coordinating Center. She led registry operations at the Coordinating Center, registry data management and analysis and provided scientific and clinical guidance to the NPA. In her tenure with the QOD, Dr. Archer helped to set strategic direction for the registry and facilitated the design and implementation of QOD data reports, white papers and manuscripts as well as the development of a predictive calculator.
Dr. Archer is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and conducts independent research into outcomes after orthopaedic surgery and musculoskeletal injury. She is the author of over 130 peer reviewed papers and has been funded by the NIH, DoD and PCORI. She is a member of the Executive and Science Committees for the DoD-funded Major Extremity Trauma and Rehabilitation Research Consortium (METRC). Dr. Archer holds a doctoral degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a masters and doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Colorado.
Jacquelyn Pennings, PhD, PStat®
Dr. Pennings joined the Quality Outcomes Database in 2016 as Associate Director of the QOD Coordinating Center. She oversaw the ongoing and daily activities at the Coordinating Center, along with REDCap database management, data cleaning and QOD reports. Dr. Pennings also led data analysis for QOD publications and papers.
As a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Pennings conducts statistical analysis and assists with research design and data management for research projects. She is the author of over 40 peer reviewed papers and has participated in studies funded by NIH, PCORI, the VA and the American Cancer Society. Her research interests include the relationship between mental health factors and outcomes such as obesity, general and physical health and health care utilization such as hospital re-admission. Specific statistical areas of expertise include structural equation modeling, factor and cluster analysis, linear and hierarchical/mixed models and nonparametric analyses, including logistic regression techniques. Dr. Pennings holds a doctoral degree from Texas Christian University and accreditation as a professional statistician from the American Statistical Association.
Lori Clemons, MA, CCRP
Ms. Clemons joined the QOD in 2016 as lead QOD Project Coordinator. Ms. Clemons was the primary point of contact for QOD registry centers – facilitating onboarding and training for sites, monitoring site performance and managing the reporting activities for the QOD Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR). Ms. Clemons also served as the liaison between the QOD Practice-Based Learning Network (PBLN) and the Coordinating Center, working with the PBLN to identify and provide continuous education to QOD site coordinators.
Claudia Davidson, MPH
Ms. Davidson joined the QOD team in 2016 as a QOD Project Coordinator. Ms. Davidson, alongside Lori Clemons, provided support to QOD registry centers, including onboarding and training new site coordinators, reviewing QOD registry reports and working with registry centers on data cleaning and audit checks. Ms. Davidson also served as lead project manager for the QOD Tumor Registry pilot.
Ms. Davidson is a Health Policy/Service Analyst II at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she is a project and data manager for several registries and data analyst for small departmental research projects. Ms. Davidson holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with a background in health services and epidemiological research on access and quality care for people living in vulnerable situations.
