Since then, N2QOD has expanded beyond the boundaries of its name and is now known as Quality Outcomes Database (QOD), which includes the multi-specialty QOD-Lumbar Spine (including Deformity), QOD-Cervical Spine and QOD-Neurovascular registries. Any actively participating surgeon, practice group or hospital system in the U.S. can contribute to and access aggregate quality and outcomes data through this centralized, nationally-coordinated quality program.

The QOD-Lumbar Spine registry was launched in February 2012. In 2018, the QOD-Lumbar Spine registry has over 100 contracted centers across the country with more than 65,000 enrolled patients across 93 centers. The QOD-Cervical Spine registry was launched in March 2013 with 79 active centers and nearly 30,000 patients enrolled in 2017. In December 2014, the QOD expanded its spine program to include spinal deformity cases and now has over 2,000 patients enrolled from 58 active centers. The QOD-Neurovascular registry is active in 26 centers with over 4,000 patient cases enrolled.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”2858″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

QOD Program Enhancements and Expansion

The NPA has been actively investigating new technology platforms for the QOD registries that will provide participants with a more robust, timely and user-friendly experience. Pilot testing has been initiated on a simplified version of the QOD registry, coined ‘QOD Version 2.0’. QOD Version 2.0 will collect a limited set of the larger QOD surgical data variables and is aimed at reducing the resource burden of the full QOD.

The QOD Spine Surgery Predictive Calculators began testing in select centers under a grant obtained from the Lumbar Spine Research Society (LSRS). On conclusion of testing, NPA will embark on a prospective validation plan for the calculators before the calculators are made available to QOD participating sites. A public version of the calculator is also being developed. The QOD Tumor Registry has completed development and will begin testing in the fall of 2018.

The QOD was again approved as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) 2018 Program Year. The 2018 QOD QCDR offers sixteen spine specialty-specific measures that can be used to report MIPS Quality Data to CMS. The QOD has been a QCDR since 2015. Prior to becoming a QCDR, the QOD was a Qualified Registry under the CMS Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) in 2013 and 2014.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]To meet the growing need for tools to measure and promote quality care, the NPA collaborated with several national stakeholders six years ago to create an unprecedented program: the National Neurosurgery Quality and Outcomes Database (N2QOD).
